A Declarative Specification for Authoring Metrics Dashboards

Abstract
Dashboards are a common way to present and monitor business metrics, but authoring them remains laborious. We review a corpus of production metrics dashboards and find that many share a common structure: one or more metrics broken down by a shared set of dimensions. We introduce a declarative specification that captures this structure directly, and Quick Dashboard, a graphical interface built on it, letting authors describe a dashboard in terms of metrics and dimensions rather than assembling charts one at a time.
